About us
GalleFace.org is a simple guide to Galle Face Green and travel in Sri Lanka, made by a small, independent team in Colombo.
Who we are
We are a small team who live and work in and around Colombo. We made this site for visitors, for families, and for anyone who wants clear, honest answers about Galle Face Green and the places people visit from Colombo.
GalleFace.org started in April 2025 as a small blog with affiliate links to tours (links that could pay us a small commission). In October 2026 we rebuilt it as a free, independent guide that sells nothing.
Why we made this site
Galle Face Green is one of the happiest places in Colombo. But many guides online are old, hard to read, or simply wrong. We wanted one clear guide with checked facts, so anyone can plan a visit, from grandparents to an 8-year-old.
How we make our guides
- Official sources first. We check facts against government departments, the parks, the railway and the airport first, then recent news, then good travel guides. Each page lists its main sources.
- We show the date. “Updated” is the last time we changed a page. “Facts checked”, in each page’s sources, is the last time we compared its facts with those sources. Prices and timetables change, so we say when something is uncertain.
- Some things we work out ourselves. Walking times come from walking routes on OpenStreetMap, and sunset times come from the sun's position (the same maths that weather services use).
- We use computer tools, including AI, to help us search and write. We check every fact against reliable sources, and each page lists the main ones. We write in simple words so the guides are easy for everyone.
- We tell you the downsides too, like crowds, strong waves, long drives and scams. We never promise that you will see an animal.
- We keep it fresh. We re-check the facts that change most (prices, trains and park closures) every few months, and sooner when there is news.
No ads, nothing to sell
GalleFace.org is free to read. There are no ads and no paid or sponsored posts, and we earn nothing if you buy something after clicking a link. We don't sell tours, rides or tickets, and no company pays us to be mentioned.
We are not the official park website
GalleFace.org is independent. Galle Face Green is run by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, and a company owned by the Ports Authority looks after it day to day. We are not part of the places we write about either: the Galle Face Hotel, One Galle Face mall, Port City, the Lotus Tower and Gangaramaya Temple each have their own owners and websites.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and change the date on the page. Big changes are listed here, newest first. To tell us about a mistake, email hello@galleface.org.
- : The Galle Face Hotel page said its famous doorman met the young Princess Elizabeth, as a 2014 news story said. She never visited Ceylon as a princess (her first visit was in 1954, as Queen), so we took her name out. The one-day guide now gives the same Port City closing times as our Port City page. We took two photos of people in the sea at Galle Face out of the gallery, and the Getting there page now has a map.
- : Corrected the walk between Gangaramaya Temple and Seema Malaka (3 to 5 minutes, not 7), said that one ticket covers both temples, and moved Seema Malaka’s map pin to the right spot on the lake. The Lotus Tower’s viewing deck is outdoors, so it is no longer listed as a rainy-day place. Walking times from the north end of the green now start at its real north tip. Port City: the old app pass stopped in 2026, so we no longer say you need it or an ID at the gate, and we moved the way in to the Lotus Roundabout. Lotus Tower: 9 PM (10 PM at weekends) is when ticket sales stop, not when it closes, and the $20 ticket includes Pixel Bloom. We took out “clean toilets” at One Galle Face mall (we could not check it), and now say the green is run by the Ports Authority (not that it “belongs” to it). Added full guides to five big places near the green and a photo gallery.
- : Relaunched GalleFace.org as a free, independent guide. Every page and travel guide was rewritten and its facts checked.
